The WanderLuxe FAMILY-FRIENDLY Luxury RV Resort Scorecard

When we first started sharing RV resorts, we kept getting the same question: Why on EARTH would you pay $300+ a night for a campground?! Especially when there are so many free boondocking places available through entities like Harvest Hosts or the like. Well . . . the real question becomes:

“Is it actually worth it?”

And the truth is… that answer isn’t simple.

Because not all RV resorts are created equal. Some look beautiful online but fall flat in person. Others are simple—but deliver an incredible experience. 🤩

And “luxury” in the RV world? It’s wildly inconsistent.

So we built something better to hold them ALL to one standard.

✨ Why We Created the WanderLuxe Scorecard

After years of RV travel (and a LOT of trial and error), we realized something:

Most reviews are either:

• Too vague (“we loved it!”)

• Too negative (people don't ever talk about the good, only want to complain about the bad)

• Or completely biased (they were paid to stay so they say it was awesome, when it wasn't)

We wanted to create a system that is:

But most importantly…

We wanted a system that measures how a place feels—not just what it has.

🌿 Grounds & Aesthetic

This is your first impression—and honestly, it matters.

Cleanliness

We’re looking at everything:

• Sites

• Roads

• Bathrooms

• Pool areas

Landscaping

Not just “are there trees?”

We’re evaluating:

• Mature landscaping

• Grass quality

• Hardscaping (pavers, stonework, etc.)

• Water features

• Overall visual cohesion

Does it feel curated… or thrown together? Does it feel like a glorified parking lot?

Design & Atmosphere

This is the vibe.

Does it feel:

• Elevated?

• Thoughtful?

• Intentional?

Or does it feel like…a parking lot with palm trees?

🏕️ Sites & Privacy

Where you actually live during your stay.

Site Size

• Can you fully extend your slides?

• Do you have outdoor living space?

• Are you cramped or comfortable?

Privacy

Luxury = space.

We look at:

• Distance between sites

• Landscaping buffers

• Sightlines

• Noise separation

Can you relax… or are you watching your neighbor grill dinner?

Hookups & Infrastructure

This is where functionality matters.

• Power reliability

• Water pressure

• Sewer placement

• WiFi/cable access

If this fails, the experience fails.

How the resort flows.

Resort Size

Is it:

• Overcrowded?

• Massive but well-designed?

There’s a sweet spot—and not every resort hits it.

• Ease of navigation

If it’s stressful to get in or out… it’s not luxury.

**Do remember, while we do score this.. Our prerogative is to rate and find "Family Friendly Luxury RV Resorts". If they are adult-friendly, that's great, they will score well in this category, but they won't score well overall on our card.
